Calling all scientists, official and aspiring! We need help getting water tested!
In order to make our case to official bodies and provide residents of Prenter with the information they need to understand their health issues, we need far more data about exactly what is in the water. Comprehensive water testing is very expensive, so any help securing free or discounted water testing is absolutely crucial. So far, we have gotten some results from the excellent work of Dr. Ben Stout of Wheeling Jesuit University and there are students at James Madison University currently conducting an independent study on Prenter’s water. Universities generally have all the resources we need, so getting more professors and students involved in research in Prenter is the best way to get this information that we need.
Water Testing Needs:
Metals:
Heavy metal contamination is the number one concern for the water in Prenter. Fortunately, it is the easiest testing to do. The ideal equipment for metals testing is an ICP-MS. Atomic Absorption works as well though it is not as accurate.
Organics testing:
We have reason to believe that there are likely some Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) and Diesel Range Organics (DRO) in the water, as well as a compound called acrylamide. Finding organics is tricky business and requires a greater investment of time and resources. The equipment required includes GC-MS, LC-MS, and HPLC.
